Teacher/student/Parent contract

What you can expect from me:

  • I will do all I can to facilitate a laid back and positive atmosphere for learning.
  • I believe music should be fun and hard work. Both fun and hard work are complimentary for learning.
  • When I can’t make a lesson, I will do all I can to let you know of my absence at least 24 hours in advance.
  • I won’t come to a lesson if I am sick.
  • I will always be open to parent and student feedback.
  • I will send an email to help remind your child of the next scheduled lesson.
  • When sheet music needs to be purchased for a lesson, I will do my best to select pieces that are reasonably priced.

What I expect from students:

  • I expect students to practice. Band rehearsal is not practice. Rather, practice is alone time with your instrument working on specific goals and objectives.
  • I recommend 30 minutes of practice a day, 5 days a week for middle and high school students.  Of course, you can always do more. The more you practice - the faster you improve.
  • When you can’t be at a lesson, please do your best to let me know of your absence at least 24 hours in advance. If you get sick at the last minute, don’t worry; just let me know when you can of your illness.
  • Do not come to your lesson if you are sick.  You will not be charged a lesson fee if you are sick.
  • Students are responsible for purchasing music necessary for the lesson in a timely fashion.
  • Student are required to bring a notebook to lessons to record notes and assignments.

What I expect from parents:

  • It helps if you are actively involved in the process of lessons.
  • Please help your child remember when lessons are scheduled. I will do my best to remind you with an email.
  • Supporting your child’s practice routine at home or in the band room is really important.
  • When your child can’t be at a lesson, please do your best to let me know of the absence at least 24 hours in advance. If your child gets sick at the last minute, don’t worry; just let me know when you can of your child’s illness.
  • Do not send your child to a lesson if they are sick.  You will not be charged a lesson fee if they are sick.
  • I accept cash or check at the beginning of every lesson.
  • Parents are welcome to observe all or part of a lesson.
